Summer Country Shows,

Regular readers will know that not only do we write the blog here, but we also sell Glamping, Camping and Festival Accessories. We’re out and about in the Summer, at country shows, village fetes, dog shows etc selling our wares. We park up Artie, our campervan, behind the stall, and get ourselves out chatting.

Where have we been?

4 Points Leisure ShowAll over! From April onwards,  we’re on the road. And it’s inspired this post, to tell you about some of the attractions and shows around this Summer. They’re a great way of getting out for the day, you’ll learn loads, and most importantly support local small businesses, like ourselves. The best thing about Shows, whether small local affairs or larger county shows, is the variety of products. We’ve seen everything from, Ferret Racing to Tarot Reading, the usual food stalls (think fudge, hog roast, noodles! 1940’s Trench Stew) individual jewellery and crafts. A brilliant place to buy one offs (early Christmas shopping anyone?).

Summer Country Shows

Old Berkshire Countryside Day, Oxfordshire

Old Berks Country DayThis show is our daughter’s favourite day. Based in Faringdon, it’s beside the Old Berkshire Hunt kennels. Dogs are a large feature of the day, with the central ring showing different types of dog, alongside the Pony Club demonstrations, falconry displays, tractors and clay shooting. The show also gives you a chance to tour the kennels. Usually the 2nd Sunday in May.

Stratton Music Festival & Cricklade Music Festival, Wiltshire

We’ve clubbed these two together, because they are both outstanding examples of the local/parish council, hosting a music festival for the community. Both festivals, look to bring new music talent to the foreground, as well as providing a great space for the community to come together. With loads of activities, and individual items to buy. Stratton Festival is usually the 3rd weekend in July, and Cricklade Festival is usually the 3rd Sunday in June.

Uffington White Horse Show, Oxfordshire

Happening over the August Bank Holiday each year, near the village of Uffington. This show is large, and features a wide range of attractions including arena events, craft stalls, animals, historic vehicles and usually a fly past of historic planes. We particularly enjoy the heavy horses together with the M.A.D bike team, obviously not at the same time!

Steam Shows

Northleach Steam Show, Cotswolds

A steam show is something else again, as we learnt last year. Northleach is a friendly warm show, very inclusive of everyone, whether you’re a steam buff or not. Showcasing steam engines big and small, vintage cars and tractors alongside many interesting stalls. We were able to choose from, antique stalls, craft, funfair rides, auto-jumble and various food, including pheasant and venison burgers (out of this world).

West Oxon Steam & Vintage Show, Witney, Oxfordshire

We’re off to this show for the first time this year, with steam engines, vintage cars and motorbikes, alongside the various small business stalls. Held over the weekend of 22nd & 23rd July 2017, first weekend of the school holidays so worth a trek out.

There we have it some of the shows we attend over the Summer, do come by and say hello! We’re always on the look out for other shows to attend, let us know where you’ve been. Until next time…. #getoutside.
